To help you find the perfect spot to park your home on wheels, we’ve curated a selection of the best RV parks South Padre Island offers, extending our recommendations to include a few hidden gems in the surrounding areas.

RV Parks in South Padre Island

Boasting 34 miles of pristine emerald coastline and basking in an average of 253 days of sunshine annually, South Padre Island is an exceptional RV destination throughout the year.

Whether you’re planning a thrilling spring break RV trip, a sun-soaked summer beach escape, or embracing the warmer weather as a snowbird, discovering a fantastic RV Park in South Padre Island is a breeze with four stellar RV options on

One standout choice for RV travelers is the South Padre Island KOA Holiday. With well-maintained facilities and a range of services, KOA provides a comfortable home base for your island exploration.

We enjoyed many gorgeous sunsets at the South Padre Island KOA!

Choose from spacious pull-thrus, back-in sites, and pull-in sites designed for motorhomes, many of which offer breathtaking views of Laguna Madre Bay. Accommodating a range of RV sizes, from small campers to large rigs up to 60 feet long, KOA ensures a perfect fit for every traveler. For those without an RV, the resort extends its hospitality with cabins and tent sites.

What sets the South Padre KOA apart is its luxurious amenities, ensuring a relaxing RV experience. From a heated swimming pool and the “largest hot tub on the island” to a dog park, sand playground, and bayside sunset deck, these facilities were designed to help you enjoy your island getaway.

Situated on Laguna Madre Bay, the KOA also features boat ramps, making it an ideal spot to launch your boat, kayak, or paddleboard into Gulf Coast waters.

Beyond the exceptional facilities, the South Padre KOA ensures a vibrant stay with a calendar filled with engaging activities. During our visit, the resort hosted a Thanksgiving potluck, bingo, and cozy movie nights with popcorn and s’mores.

If you happen to be in town during a SpaceX Launch, you’re in for a treat – the resort offers an excellent vantage point. We were fortunate enough to witness the second test flight of the Starship Rocket in November 2023, a truly incredible experience!

Pro Tip: SpaceX employees trim time off their commute by catching the Starbase Hovercraft Shuttle Service. Watch it take off from the KOA dock (next to the dog park) to the nearby rocket facility. Several shuttles run in the morning and evening.

While our overall stay at KOA South Padre Island was enjoyable, it’s worth noting that the RV sites can feel cramped when the resort fills up. This, coupled with relatively higher rates, stood out as the main drawbacks of an otherwise delightful experience. Keep this in mind if you’re planning a visit during a busier season!

Isla Blanca RV Park

For those seeking a beachfront RV experience, Isla Blanca County Park Campground is an ideal choice. Nestled along the Gulf of Mexico at the southernmost tip of South Padre Island, the park offers breathtaking ocean views and direct access to the beach and bay.

Isla Blanca RV Park

Boasting over 600 full-hookup RV sites, Isla Blanca ensures there’s no shortage of campsites for RV travelers. The park features two newly renovated beachfront pavilions equipped with beach rentals and food concessions. Additional amenities include shower/restroom facilities, walking trails, a bait stand, and a boat ramp, providing everything needed for a fulfilling stay.

Between the expansive mile-long beach, inviting fishing jetties, and a plethora of recreational activities, Isla Blanca Park is the ultimate destination for immersing yourself in the beauty of the Gulf waters surrounding South Padre Island.

Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for playful dolphins in the surf! We were fortunate enough to spot some on the south side of the park out in the bay.

While the allure of the beach is the primary draw for booking a campsite at Isla Blanca RV Park, it’s essential to note that some RVers have pointed out that the park’s aging infrastructure needs updates. Additionally, the presence of fire ants and prickly sandburs in the grass can detract from the overall enjoyment of your RV site – Don’t want to step on either of those, yikes!

For those seeking a no-frills RV park in South Padre Island, Isla Blanca might be precisely what you’re looking for – a perfect blend of coastal charm and simplicity.

Andy Bowie County Park

Located on the serene north end of South Padre Island, directly across from the South Padre Island Convention Center, is Andy Bowie County Park, another gem within the Cameron County parks system. This tranquil retreat offers a variety of amenities, making it an excellent choice for travelers seeking a peaceful South Padre Island RV park.

At Andy Bowie Park, you’ll find two surfside picnic pavilions, ideal for enjoying meals with breathtaking views. BBQ areas, full-hookup RV sites, food concessions, and beach rental options cater to the diverse needs of visitors. The park also features designated fishing and swimming areas, ensuring a perfect blend of relaxation and recreation.

Those yearning for a quieter beach experience will find that Andy Bowie Park provides respite, particularly in fall when crowds thin out. It’s an excellent option for RVers seeking peace while still having access to essential amenities.

This South Padre RV park offers direct access to pristine beach, ensuring a seamless connection with the Gulf waters. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to the South Padre Birding and Nature Center, while those seeking beachfront entertainment can explore Clayton’s Beach Bar, renowned as the biggest beach bar in Texas.

While Andy Bowie County Park provides essential amenities and a peaceful atmosphere, there are some notable drawbacks to consider. The RV spaces are tightly packed, resembling a parking lot, and maneuvering within the small park can be challenging.

Some RV campers have also mentioned that a significant concern is the strain on the septic system, leading to potential overflow issues. It seems like the Cameron County RV parks are due for some updating all around!

Edwin King Atwood Park

For those seeking an extraordinary RV beach camping experience on South Padre Island, Edwin King Atwood Park (Beach Access 5) is the only option for boondocking directly on the beach.

Situated on the Gulf of Mexico, about 1.6 miles north of Andy Bowie Park, E.K. Atwood Park is open 7 days a week providing vehicular beach access and allowing RVers to make the beautiful coastline their campsite for the night.

This is the best place to enter the beach if you plan to boondock!

It’s important to note that South Padre Island beach camping begins at Beach Access #5 and extends northward. There is a fee to access the beach by vehicle, and the first several miles are accessible to two-wheel drive vehicles and RVs. However, beyond that point, four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for beach access due to loose sand.

Pro Tip: If you’re camping elsewhere but want to enjoy a remote stretch of beach, check out Beach Access #6. We frequently drove to the beach in this area to avoid the crowds. It’s free and should be no problem with a four-wheel drive vehicle!

Edwin King Atwood Park offers a parking area with a large dumpster, a beachside covered pavilion with picnic tables, restrooms, and a convenient boardwalk for easy beach access. Despite the lack of traditional RV park amenities, beach camping on the island allows for bonfires, pets, and fishing – a unique experience for those seeking a more rustic outdoor getaway.

Look for hard packed sand to drive on to avoid getting stuck. Watch tides & weather closely!

When opting for beach camping on South Padre Island, staying vigilant about the changing tides and weather is crucial. The possibility of getting stuck in the sand is also a real concern, so it’s advisable to carry recovery gear. Large rigs may find beach camping challenging; it’s much better suited for small trailers or truck campers on South Padre Island.

This free beach camping in Texas provides RVers with a rustic, untamed setting. It’s important to note that there are no amenities or services available, so thorough planning and self-sufficiency are crucial for a successful stay. The narrow beach requires campers to be mindful of tides and the high tide line when selecting their beach campsite.

Boca Chica Beach, located at the southernmost tip of Texas, offers more than just camping. As you navigate the beach, you’ll have the opportunity to view the Rio Grande emptying into the Gulf of Mexico—an extraordinary sight for those checking off items on their Texas bucket list.
